There are two questions you can ask any foster parent and you’ll likely get the same response: Will it be easy? No. Is it worth it? Absolutely.
One of the challenges facing foster parents and those working with children impacted by foster care, is how to best meet the needs of a child who has faced trauma. In an effort to better serve children impacted by foster care and adoption, and to equip those who care for them, Fairhaven Church is hosting the Empowered to Connect Conference.
“We want to help provide resources for foster parents and caregivers,” said Jane Piatt, Local Outreach Specialist at Fairhaven Church. “It’s our desire to come alongside them and provide support and education, to help them best care for these vulnerable children.”
Attendees will gain a better understanding of the needs of the whole child, along with the principles of empowering, connecting and correcting, and practical steps that can help children heal. In addition, the training will provide an in-depth look at the impact of trauma on children, including development and behaviors, and offer insights and strategies for parents and caregivers.
The conference, held via simulcast, will take place at Fairhaven’s Centerville Campus on April 5 & 6 from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM. Foster parents in Montgomery County can earn educational credits by attending. The conference is free, but attendees must preregister. You can register online or by calling 937-434-8627.
