From improving balance, to helping prevent falls, to decreasing depression, there is no shortage of statistics about the benefits of exercise for older adults. But beginning an exercise program can be intimidating if you don’t know where to start. To help older adults get and stay healthy, Fairhaven Church offers ABC Fitness taught by ISSA Certified Personal Trainer Marty Piatt. The class is designed for adults over 50 and teaches agility, balance and coordination.
“ABC Fitness is specifically designed for older adults who want to live a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Marty Piatt. “I often tell my students, don’t let your age control your lifestyle, let your lifestyle control your age.”
And her students couldn’t agree more. “The exercise class has been a wakeup call for me. I have found out how much my body needed this and how much better I feel after doing the exercises. My balance has improved greatly, my cholesterol level has dropped and my overall health is so much improved!” shared 80-year-old class participant, Marilyn.
ABC Fitness is offered at Fairhaven’s Centerville Campus on Mondays and Fridays from 10:15-11:15 AM. You can join any time; visitors may attend one class for free. Each 16-class session is $25.
